Drawing games for kids

Six ways to play
Beat the clock
Give everyone 30 seconds for the same word. Short timers make kids commit to a shape instead of erasing.
Draw from memory
Look at the picture together, hide it, then draw. Great for observation skills and much funnier than it sounds.
Finish the picture
Start with a few strokes already on the page. Everyone ends up somewhere different from the same beginning.
Make it symmetrical
Half a butterfly is drawn — mirror the other half. A gentle intro to symmetry without a worksheet.
Silent gallery
Lay all the drawings out face up and guess who drew which one before revealing the word.

Print the day's prompts and take them along. Paper and a pencil, no screens required.

A short timer takes the pressure off being neat. Kids who say “I can't draw” usually mean “I can't draw perfectly” — 30 seconds removes that option for everyone at the table, which is exactly what makes it fun.
